Abstract or Summary

Having studied this chapter, you will be able to have: •become familiar with the distinction between the concepts of ‘sex’ and ‘gender’; •explored the dualism of male and female, its presumed ‘naturalness’, and its relationship to sexual expression; •reflected on the discrimination that can occur in health and social practice professions when stereotypical ideas of sex, gender and sexual orientation are applied within health and social care to those we work with and for.
