Abstract

Wintec has added wānanga as a Model of Learning under their Blended Learning Strategy. What was missing, however, was a pedagogical framework that informed staff how wānanga contributes to knowledge building and development for both students and staff. A research project was undertaken to collate both historical and contemporary information on wānanga and its use in houses of learning.

This presentation will provide information about what wānanga is, how it was used historically, and how it can be used today as a Model of Learning, specifically in a Blended Learning Strategy. This leads towards greater esteem for Māori pedagogy and encourages appropriate and collaborative best practice.
