Abstract

Wintec has recognised the value of 'Wānanga' and added it, alongside 5 other Models of Learning, under its Blended Learning Strategy. What was missing, however, was the pedagogical knowledge or theoretical underpinnings that showed why it was an ideal Model of Learning for students and staff. A literature review and two oracles were sourced to articulate what is wānanga and how it can be delivered and supported to ensure safe and appropriate practice and learning under the Blended Learning Strategy within Wintec. Māori staff shared this 'gift' of knowing with non-Māori towards greater esteem for Māori pedagogy, as well as appropriate, safe and collaborative best practice. This session seeks to share this information and experience with those who are hoping to build a stronger theoretical base for their practice of wānanga.
