Abstract

This presentation will discuss transforming Māori experiences of historical intergenerational trauma. The focus examines historical contexts surrounding Te Tiriti o Waitangi 1840 and the legislative violations that stem from them.
The second aspect examines the impact of those legisltative violations and systematically tracks those impacts using a historical timeline from 1840 into contemporary times in 2013.
The third aspect analyses the implications of those legislative impacts and the intergenerational ramification that have manifested into Maori deficit statistics in health, education, social orientation, prisons and employment etc.
The third aspect introduces Maori counselling frameworks designed to respond to historical intergenerational trauma.
