Abstract or Summary

Workshop aim This workshop is designed to help midwives to explore professional relationships within the clinical, cultural and social communities in which they work and live. Being involved in caring and advocating for other people can involve complex and challenging personal and professional situations. This workshop will help midwife participants understand more about the organisational, cultural and professional principles that guide their work. It will engage them in dialogue other members of their community of practice to explore ideas about professional boundaries and explore practical strategies to manage relationships with clients and colleagues. Participants will • Define and interpret frameworks and ideas for professional boundaries within cultural and organisational contexts • Examine specific professional, cultural, personal and organisational responsibilities in relation to boundary work • Recognise challenges in managing boundaries, and identify guidelines and strategies to manage complex situations • Participate in conversations about challenging situations and talk through potential approaches for culturally and professionally safe conduct • Understand the potential of clinical supervision in effective boundary management
