Abstract or Summary

Project aims 1. To produce a series of figurative paintings to exhibit within the domain of fine art that investigates how a domestic interior can be used as a setting to examine themes of interiority (the quality of being interior or inward). 2. To move beyond the use of the photograph/film still as a source material for painting by experimenting with the possibilities inherant in painting and my creative process, with particular emphasis on developing a sensitivity to materiality and colour. Research Questions 1.What are some methods used by contemporary figurative painters (contemporary realism, neo-expressionism and impressionism) to examine contemporary domestic life? 2. How can Deleuze and Guattari’s notion of the diagram (manipulated chance) be developed into a strategy for making paintings? 3. How can these methods and strategies be employed to make paintings that examine contemporary domestic life?
