Abstract or Summary

To refine a mode of practice that resonated with my life; acknowledging the impact, life experiences have had on my painting practice in the past. Generating an experience from which I could draw from creatively. I wanted to create a type of disruption within my practice. Bergson’s duration and the memory of the experience, the continual interaction between the past and present is where memories undergo a ‘transmutable process … as the decompose and recompose… memory-images and representation images interact’ (Anderson, 2010. p.10) Practice Research Questions  What are some of the technical, methodological, narrative conventions used in the work of the selected contemporary (romantic and illusionistic) landscape painters?  Using some of these conventions how is movement encouraged, in the static form of paint? Theoretical Research Question  Looking at ideas around perception and movement within painting; Is there a link between, Henri Bergson, my theoretical influence and my practical influences, Peter Doig, Hernan Bas and Michael Harrington?
