Abstract or Summary

Hamilton-based multimedia ensemble DR. MESMER’S PRIVATE ARMY (Jeremy Mayall, Kent Macpherson, Yotam Levy and Paul Bradley) will be bring their intricate tapestries of sound and visuals to Wallace Gallery Morrinsville for a one night only performance. Their collective approach to performance really exists in the colour of sound, the magic of the moment where, inspired by space and time, fleeting ideas can create new compositions based around musical fragments and field recordings. On Friday November 11th (from 6pm), in the Wallace Gallery Morrinsville, Dr. Mesmer’s Private Army will perform a live synthesis of found sound, piano and electronics, sonic textures, and live instrumental playing, which is paired with live visual art projection. The group aim to transform the gallery into a transcendental space, playing with the perception of time through deconstructing the conventions of traditional compositional and performative approaches. The performance of "Illuminated Stillness" is a unique long form musical composition within which different ideas, textures, fragments, themes and variations will be delicately woven. It is a great opportunity to end the working week and settle into the weekend with a audio-visual experience that will be relaxing and meditative, allowing the audience to become part of the immersive multimedia journey. PRESENTED WITH THE KIND SUPPORT OF WINTEC (The School of Media Arts), and Wallace Gallery Morrinsville.
