Abstract

The Waikato Matrix was a prototype experiment which tested the interactive IT infrastructure of a sensor mesh network in the live setting of a black box theater. Participants wandered around a maze created by theater blacks suspended from the rigging. The semi-dark space was filled with haze and participant's movements triggered sound, lighting and mechanical actuation (sirens, an overhead glitter drop, audience blinders, LED lighting etc.)
This work was partially successful, but suffered from multiple sound card failures, and a lack of funding.
