Abstract or Summary

As research becomes an ever more important goal and outcome for tertiary level educational institutions and the disciplines they house, a significant question engaging teachers of creative writing internationally is: How do we teach and encourage approaches to research in creative writing? To this discussion, we bring what we can learn from a collaborative and Australasian approach to this issue. Briefly profiled will be the work of individuals, groups, and professional organisations and communities in this space, as well as the possible futures opened up by this co-operation. We will discuss conferences, journal special issues and books which have arisen from initiatives across oceans, in particular across ‘the ditch’ that separates Australia and New Zealand, and the way that as with Curnow’s Abel Tasman, we have found that, “Simply by sailing in a new direction You could enlarge the world.”
