Abstract or Summary
This research explored the lived experiences of mental health nurses using therapeutic communication in the course of their everyday work. They described the ways they engage with patients to develop trust and to maintain relationships despite institutional pressures. They also described experiences of being unable to use best practice and how that impacted on relationships.
