Abstract

Into the darkness: Bruce Springsteen’s musical representations of the night
Paper presented at the New Zealand Musicological Society Conference, 30 November - 2 December 2018, University of Canterbury, Christchurch, NZ.
This paper addressed representations of the night, as a lyrical trope, in the songs of Bruce Springsteen. In doing so, I argue that Springsteen validates the life experiences of those to and for whom he sings, as well as connects himself with a long-standing Western artistic tradition.
