Abstract or Summary

The project is to interview a number of people about their favorite items of clothing and looking at strategies to love, appreciate and wear clothing that is already owned (as opposed to purchasing new clothing), and create a social media campaign highlighting these peoples stories. The aim is to look at these strategies as a possible way to lower the environmental impact of the fast fashion industry. The social media campaign was part of the global Fashion Revolution (fashionrevolution.org) week from 22-28th April 2019. A social media campaign was been selected to ensure the project has a low carbon footprint and to engage with a younger audience. To research and develop new ways of thinking about the consumption of fashion garments and apply this research to a social media campaign as a strategy to reach consumers. To encourage people to consider the waste, water, chemicals and carbon consumed in the production of fashion through creating a series of statistics, photos and quotes that consider people’s relationship with clothing.

Item Type:Media arts item
Additional Information:My contribution as project lead was to write low risk human ethics forms, plan out who to interview and what the key aims of the research was. I made sure that the project would co-ordinate with The Fashion Revolution brand guidelines. I met with the photographer and discussed the planning. I organised the 5 interviews, interview questions and locations for the photo shoots. I interviewed the participants and helped direct the photographer where needed. I typed up all interview information and planned out the content for a successful social media campaign.
