This paper discusses the role of design in creating Chinese festival culture and its impact on the preservation, representation, and evolution of cultural heritage. First, the paper will introduce and analyze the significance of festivals in Chinese culture and the current role of design in relation to traditional culture. In the following section, informed by several case studies, the article will propose several principles and strategies for designing traditional culture-related items in a contemporary context. Ultimately, I argue, with reference to design thinking, that designers should consider the balance between tradition and innovation while maintaining the authenticity of traditional cultural artifacts, other contemporary design concerns include being friendly to the environment and improving accessibility and inclusiveness.
