Dr John Clayton is a leading New Zealand educator with extensive knowledge of deploying, using and evaluating learning technologies in educational settings. He is currently the Director of the Emerging Technologies Centre at the Waikato Institute of Technology. He has continually engaged with, distributed development teams, the local business community and other educational institutions.
He has received a number of awards for his contribution to the education sector including; Chancellor of the University commendation for Doctor of Science Education Thesis, Waikato Institute of Technology Research Leadership Award, the Asia New Zealand Foundation: Higher Education Exchange Programme for exchange between Matsue Technical College of Japan and Waikato Institute of Technology of New Zealan

From 2005-2010 he was a member of member of the Ministry of Education of New Zealand tertiary e-learning reference group, He is currently a member of, Technologies in education special interest group of the British Educational Research Association (BERA), Digital Industry Leadership Group (DILG), Hamilton City Council, Campus representative, Australasian Society for Computers in Learning in Tertiary Education (ascilite, member of the Kiwi Advanced Research and Education Network (KAREN) advisory panel.
