Biography:
I am the first Research Champion for Wintec, starting early 2010. Nowadays this involves promoting research in Wintec, developing new cross-School projects, being Research Leader for Schools of IT/Business and doing my own research. Very satisfactory!
Most of the previous decade (2002-2010) time was spent in various management roles at Wintec, including Head of School of Information Technology and for two years simultaneously also the Head of School of Business. In addition I managed the Electrical teaching section for two years and for a brief period also the Wintec e-learning project.
I joined the tertiary world in 2000 as Associate Professor, the first professorial appointment in IT at Technikon Pretoria in South Africa (now called Tshwane University of Technology). Leadership roles also include Section Head IT Post Graduate and Research and Acting Chair of Department if IT. The process to create the current Faculty of IT in 2003 developed from my formal proposal with colleagues and a new advisory body.
Prior industry experience include thirteen years in IT of Banking (Absa Bank, South Africa) in various senior management roles, culminating Deputy General Manager (IT Service Quality). Each position was newly defined or involved substantial change. My first work experience during the 1980’s was in Industrial R&D with IT roles include Programming, Scientist and Systems Coordinator.
