Biography:
Born Sunderland, Durham, England, but home town is Whitby, North Yorkshire. Emmigrated to New Zealand when 7 years old. Primary schooling at Te Horo, Horowhenua, and Linton, Manawatu. Palmerston North Intermediate Normal and Palmerston North Girls' High School. Worked at New Zealand Electricity Department as pays, accounts and administration clerk. Was Assistent Advisory Officer at NZED head office, Wellington, during the Manapouri campaign, then Maternity and Child Health Section Clerk with Health Dept. Married Peter Gibbons. Attended Hamilton Teachers' College. Taught at Insoll Avenue School. Had 3 children. Worked in New Zealand Collection at Hamilton Public Library. Attended Victoria University to do graduate library diploma. Was Corporate Information and Research Officer at Hamilton City Council. Appointed Deputy Librarian-in-Charge at Hamilton Teachers' College. Continued to work in School Of Education Library after amalgamation with University of Waikato. At various times was Head of Circulation, Reference, Information Literacy, Collections. Won study award to York University. Became Collections Team Leader at Wintec, in charge of acquisitions, cataloguing, systems. Later added Circulation to this. After restructuring role changed to Library Technology Team Leader. Hobbies include children's lterature and literacy education. Editor of Reading Forum NZ, the national journal of the New Zealand Reading Association. Mark for the Open Polytecvhnic of New Zealand. Committee member Waikato Children's Literature Association and LIANZA. Past LIANZA Regional Councillor.
