Abstract
This outdoor exhibition at the Waitakaruru Sculpture Park, Hamilton, was curated by Sarah Anderson. Various artists were in this show, including Andy Lowe, Elaine Barry Conway, Peter Lange, Matt McLean, Sopolemalama Filipe Tohi and John Edgar. The works by Gareth Williams in this show continue his exploration vernacular architecture in the New Zealand landscape. The works are sited with a perspective view over the landscape itself and a plinth/seat as part of the work provides just one of many viewpoints. This addresses ideas of site, perception and scale relationships for the viewer as a participant.
Gaston Bachelard states in “The Poetics of Space” (1958):
“The miniature deploys to the dimensions of a universe. Once more, large is contained in the small.”
