Abstract
absolute plane is a digital video art installation that forms part of a on-going project called absolute ceiling, a long term project that seeks to explore ideas of the contemporary sublime and phenomenology in relation scale, perspective, space and time.
With the spiralling cost of oil, rapidly changing global economies, and the real truth about climate change, air travel may soon be a luxury we can't afford.
absolute plane comprises two columns of five looped video sequences located side-by-side. The ten individual video sequences were recorded inside a domestic flight from Wellington to Hamilton, New Zealand. Presented simultaneously together, they construct an image of two partial wings and rotating turbine blades, with hints of a cabin interior - an incomplete plane that folds-in on itself on the vertical plane.
