Abstract
In Spite of Ourselves: Approaching Documentary.
Exhibition curated by Fiona Amundsen and Dieneke Jansen.
Held at two venues: St Paul St Gallery, Auckland, 25 May - 29 June 2012 (incorporated in 2012 Auckland Photography Festival), and The Dowse Art Museum, Hutt City, 8 September – 2 December 2012.
This exhibition surveys a range of documentary practices from the 1960s to contemporary times. The exhibition presents new ways of looking at, and thinking about, documentary photography, video and sound.
A selection of David Cook's Rotowaro series (12 prints) was exhibited adjacent Darcy Lange's UK mining documentary work from the 1970s.
