Abstract

Exhibition curated by Kim Paton

Opening celebration: Tuesday 29 May 5:00pm – 7:00pm

29 May – 15 June 2012

Whether meticulously peeled from a public bollard or stolen from the local community noticeboard, it’s normally not the quality of the print job or the paper stock that makes us want to pin a dog-eared poster to the bedroom wall.

Inspired by the love of a good poster, Marker presents poster works by 14 New Zealand designers utilising the restrictive limitations of plan printing as a drawing tool.

Much like the humble photocopier, plan printing requires an economical approach and the designers in Marker make good on the old adage – a little goes a long way as they work with basic elements (low-fi, A1, B&W printing). The results – elegant, funny, punchy and poetic, 14 vastly different works that defy their modest constraints and provide an unruly and altogether inspiring snapshot of contemporary design practice.
