Abstract
This chapter explores Queen's relationship to the progressive rock movement during the early years of the British rock band's career. Using concepts of style and genre drawn from both classical music and popular music studies, it is argued that Queen related to the wider label in terms of the former, but not the latter. Accordingly, it is suggested that Queen may be understood in terms of the 'prog-lite' label.
