Abstract
Paper presented at the International Association for the Study of Popular Music (IASPM) Biennial International Conference, Kassel, Germany, 26-30 June 2017. This paper address the idea of linear or goal-directed time in popular songs. The paper was part of a panel led by myself with three other international scholars titled "Shaping Sounds and Sounds as Shapes in Popular Songs — Contemporary Analytical Approaches".
