Abstract
A composition for flutes and soundscape.
Commissioned by Adrianna Lis and Tessa Brinckman.
Performed by two flautists on a range of flutes.
Utilises the sonic characteristics of piccolo, flute, alto flute, and bass flute.
Programme Note:
Water|Wai|Woda is a musical exploration of the meaning and importance of water to humanity, presented in three interconnected parts. It is a sonic exploration of the experience of being one with water - how vital it is to human existence.
Through positioning the flutes as the voices of water spirits, the music interprets the playfulness and power of various forms of water, whilst also serving as an echo from the future about the importance of preserving what we have and what that means for our survival.
Alongside the live performers, the track utilises manipulated recordings of the various flutes, which can be heard to be electronically submerged within field recordings of water.
