As counsellor educators we try to find a healthy and appropriate balance between: the academic role of teaching and assessing, a supervisory role regarding students’ practice, and ethical standards. We may provide tutorial assistance, listen to personal challenges in the manner of providing pastoral care, and support students applications for NZAC membership requirements and employment. How do we know if we are getting the balance right and where can we look for guidance?
