My Master of Arts project relates the ancient Greek word 'Aletheia', understood as unconcealment of truth. My kinetic sound sculptures explore infrasound which is too low for human hearing by making it perceivable in the visible register. I use domestic amplifiers and cd players in conjunction with mechanical attachments to speakers to achieve this.
In my dissertation, I trace the change of truth as aletheia or unconcealment to becoming correspondence where sensible experience becomes relative to a rational knowing subject. Understanding from within the world becomes that of a separated subject observing their world. I hope to show aletheia is still relevant for art and that the concept need not have priority over the object.
