Sound and Vision: Exploring Alternative Applications
Experiments using frozen microphones with projected shadows and light. Improvised sound and visual sculpture by Media Arts tutors Kent Macpherson (music/audio technology) & Luke McConnell (graphic/digital design).
GlassLoop is an electroacoustic, performance based sound artwork utilising glass cylinders and contact microphones. One of the cylinders contains a hydrophone frozen in ice which is defrosted and subsequently boiled during the performance. The other cylinder has objects dropped in to it, while the resulting vibrations, resonances and noises are manipulated via a selection of guitar stomp-boxes and an iPad.
Shadow Projection is a performance based visual experience experimenting with the bending of reality. By projecting light and shadows into a space and onto objects, an artificial environment is created which can be manipulated to either create realism or chaos.
Performance followed by a discussion about how extending our research is beneficial to our students and aids pedagogy.
