Abstract
This lecture addresses the following set of linked questions:
Has contemporary art become a form of mass entertainment? What, if anything, distinguishes contemporary art from other forms of popular culture? Should art have as wide an audience as possible? Why is contemporary art so popular at the moment? Is the popularity of contemporary art a problem or something to be welcomed?
