Abstract
“Reality Transfer” is a proposed teaching experiment that closely applies a simulated Graphic design industry scenario to the teaching environment. The aim of this simulation is to identify the widened gap between vocational-based tertiary education and industry entry requirements.
This research follows five distinct phases: Identifying the missing link(s); industry placement and interviewing; Review the finding and result; conducting and refining methodology; applying and testing. Each phase would require careful lengthy observation and calibration in order to find the right balance between school’s objectives and industry needs.
This presentation will address these five phases and discuss many of the problems encountered: What does the industry really want from a tertiary education provider? What are the restrictions we face as educators? How can we prepare our graduates / students for the future? How can educators transfer practical experience and knowledge gained from placement and interviews? What do researchers do when faced with problems outside their expertise?
